Fire Fighters Seek Consistent Employment Procedures

The Seguin Professional Firefighters Association will be walking door-to-door in neighborhoods and commercial areas over the next several weekends asking voters to sign a petition supporting the placement of the Fire Fighters’ Civil Service Law (Texas Local Government Code, Chapter 143) on the May 8th ballot. “At this time, we are not asking voters to approve the implementation of Chapter 143, but simply to agree to put it on the ballot,” states Chris Chomel PIO for the SPFFA. If implemented, Chapter 143, or civil service, will establish a formal process for hiring, promoting and disciplining of fire fighters. Employment decisions would no longer be subject to personal preference, political considerations or prejudice.Having this consistent, predictable process to deal with employment issues helps hire qualified fire fighters and keep experienced fire fighters in Seguin. Seguin Professional Fire Fighters Association Local 4122 is an affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters and advocates for safe working conditions, training and fair compensation. SPFFA PAC - Now a Reality!

Updated On: Feb 10, 2009 (14:44:00)
The SPFFA PAC is now registered with the Texas Ethics Commission. This means the SPFFA can now become politically and financially active in local elections. The SPFFA PAC will support Fire Department friendly candidates in City and/or County elections. Westley Krueger has volunteered to be the Secretary/Treasurer. This position is a huge responsibility and Wes is to be commended for stepping up and taking on this job. The PAC will need 2 or 4 additional members to be fully functional. This is a huge step in the continuing maturity of the SPFFA. Soon members will be able make voluntary donations to support the PAC which will help to make it a strong political organization.

More EMS Upgrades

Posted On: Feb 19, 2008 (17:09:26)
Since our initial roll out of the new SMOG's for Seguin Fire/EMS we have done an outstanding job in providing a higher level of service for the citizens of our service area. The committee decided that after 6 months they would look at the SMOG's and see if any thing needed to be changed such as wording, adding or deleting medications etc. After a careful review several SMOG's have been revised and or updated. The committee was pleased to announce the addition of Heparin for Acute Coronary Syndromes, CPAP, and the return of Labetelol. Chief Mycue has said that our new 12 lead machines should be here by the end of Febuary, with training in March and the first of April. We should see these changes in place with the new 12 leads, EtCo2 etc by April 15-May 1 time frame.
